About Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh
Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh is the Earle W. Kazis and Benjamin Schore Professor of Real Estate and Professor of Finance at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, which he joined in July 2018. Prior to that, he worked at New York University's Stern School of Business for 15 years where he last was the David S. Loeb Professor of Finance. His research lies in the intersection of housing, asset pricing, and macroeconomics. One strand of his work studies how financial market liberalization in the mortgage market created the housing boom of the mid 2000s. In that area, he has also worked on regional housing prices, households’ mortgage choice, commercial real estate price formation, the impact of foreign buyers on the housing market, mortgage market design, and affordable housing. In another strand of work, he has studied the impact of financial intermediaries on the macro-economy, including the during covid pandemic.
