Europe’s premier policy journal, Economic Policy, is inviting contributions to a Special Issue on “Stereotypes, Attitudes and Discrimination”. Selected papers will be presented at the Economic Policy Panel meeting on the 7 and 8 of April 2022.

The existence of economic and social gaps across socio-economic and demographic groups continues to be a central focus of academic and policy debate. Whether we look across countries, sectors, or firms, differences across certain groups (such as gender, ethnicity, and race) have shown to be persistent over time. With an increasingly diverse society, more research is needed to understand the importance of stereotypes – how individuals are perceived – and discrimination in order to understand how they shape attitudes, and behaviour, as well as policies designed to address these issues.

In this Special Issue, we are looking for theoretical and empirical contributions that combine rigorous research with distinct policy messages. We particularly invite submissions that address issues of stereotypes and discrimination in the following contexts:

  • Labour markets
  • Educational settings
  • Policing and judiciary system
  • Globalization and immigration
  • Healthcare and health outcomes
  • Religion and multiculturalism

If you are interested in contributing, please submit a paper by 30 September 2021 using our online submission system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ecpol). Papers will be sent to referees and you will receive an editorial decision with detailed comments no later than 7 January 2022. In the positive case, a revised draft of your contribution will be due by 4 March 2022.

In the case of a positive decision, you will be invited to present your paper at the April 2022 Panel Meeting, where it will be discussed by two panellists and by the audience. After the panel, you will have time for a final set of revisions based on the panel discussion, which will be published together with the papers in a special issue of the journal.

Please do forward this message to other scholars in the field.
